What To Wear

High School Seniors: What I love most about my seniors is how their personalities shine, and I want that to come through in their photos, and therefore I believe that there really are no rules.  The sky is the limit for these sessions as most seniors bring several clothing changes.  I always recommend clothing that is bright and fun, with perhaps something black, and a fun dress and accessories for girls.

Layering looks great, and if you’re into accessories, bring your faves, but don’t force it. Guys photograph well in darker denim, button downs, plaids and striped shirts with tees underneath, whatever you feel the best in. If you’re into sports, music, art, or whatever, be sure to bring something that you love along with you, because that love helps define you and I always want that to shine through.

Families: Again, I’m more non traditional.  I want family members to compliment each other, not match, because after all, you might all be part of the same family, but I want your individual personalies to come through.  I love color, so bolder, complimentary color mixes with dark denim are always good choices.  Here are some ideas for color combinations:

-Primary colors  like red, yellow, blue and green mixed in with denim

-Jewel tones like deep purple, crimson, navy, emerald green and gold

-Navy with a pop of color like bright yellow or orange

If bold color is a bit too ‘out there’ for your taste, layers and texture look great in a photo. As with all design principals you apply when decorating your home, texture looks fabulous in photos! J Crew and Crew Cuts are great places to seek inspiration when deciding what to wear. By adding a blazer or fun scarf, not only does it make the picture look more complete, you can drop the layers toward the end of the shoot for a completely different look. The best news is layers are very in right now, so it won’t be hard for you to achieve this look! You can even get great color combination ideas from magazines with great style like Real Simple.

The one thing I do ask is that you don’t wear the basic khaki pants and white shirt for your photo shoot.  White isn’t too kind to faces, and I want to make sure I have you looking your best!
