Ohio University Hockey

Shannon may be an only child, but over the years she’s basically adopted our dear friends’ son Jarrod as the big brother that she never had.  Jarrod is a senior at Ohio University in Athens Ohio and has been a hockey player since he was a little tyke.

We’ve always been big hockey fans – well I have, as I was (cue the Journey music) “born and raised in South Deeetroooit” and have been a life long Detroit Red Wings fan.  Our friends are huge Chicago Blackhawks fans and if you know anything about hockey, there isn’t any love lost between the two teams.  Over the years, however, thanks to them, I’ve grown to really like the Blackhawks. They don’t return the sentiment, but that’s okay.

Anyhow, we love hockey. Jarrod played his last game for the OU Bobcats last Saturday ironically here in Cincinnati against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.  The Bobcats beat the Bearcats pretty easily and it was a really fun time.  One of the neat things was that there were players for UC that Jarrod grew up playing with, so many of the parents from both teams knew each other. That was neat. Ohio U is Shannon’s first choice for college as it stands right now too, so it’s always easy for us to cheer them on as we’re most likely future OU parents in addition to being adopted OU hockey parents.

I used to take a lot of pics of the Cincinnati Cyclones minor league hockey team, but I got away from that a bit in the past year or so.  It was fun to be back shooting hockey again.  The OU team asked me to do some official team shots for them after the game as well. I loved that.

In the shot below, Jarrod scored an unassisted goal.  Take a look at the guy in front of him. He was obviously more interested in protecting something other than the net.

We’re all going to the hockey game tonight too.  Go Cyclones! Maybe I’ll bring my camera, just for fun!
